After 2 years of using the original ultimate bluetooth I decided to look for an upgrade, I got the yellow version and it's a beauty of a controller, the sticks are soft and very responsive and the triggers are just right for my usage which is competitive platform fighters, I think my biggest surprise was the Dpad which I never really liked that much in the original but this version feels much better for longer sessions. I definitely recommend the upgrade and I'll probably keep using their products for a while
I've had my eye on getting an 8BitDo controller for a while. I bought the Ultimate 2 to replace my regular-use Pro Controller, which was beginning to breathe its final, dying breaths. The Ultimate 2 is everything I wish I had in a controller: comfortable to hold, easy to use, responsive, super snappy, and customizable.
The controller is comfortable to hold, though maybe not the most ergonomic controller out there. It's light but has some heft, so it doesn't feel cheap. The buttons and sticks feel great to use, I love the clean design, and although I didn't get the Ultimate 1, the center +/-/home/screen-capture buttons are much better placed and easier to get to than it looks like they would be with the Ultimate 1. I don't use the back paddle buttons, but the never feel like they're in the way, and I could easily use them if needed. I'm also super happy with the TMR joysticks. They're super responsive and much snappier than my old controller, even when used wirelessly [thank you 2.4ghz connection], and they come with the peace of mind that stick drift will never plague me again.
The Bluetooth/2.4ghz switch on the back for seamless swapping between my PC and Switch is literally everything I wanted in a regular-use controller [no more re-pairing!]. Although I can't use the 8BitDo software on my Linux PC, I still appreciate the manual switch for customizing the responsiveness of the two shoulder buttons, the programmable custom buttons, and of course, the multiple LED options for style points. Also, the charging dock is super nice and I like having a designated spot for my controller on my desk that looks clean as hell.
My only minor complaint might be that the haptic feedback/rumble, while pretty nice with good variation in subtlety, tends to make a little high-pitched whirring noise as it goes off. This is of course no problem when wearing headphones, and it might just be that I'm hyper-aware of it since my previous controller's rumble died a long time ago.
Regardless, for the insanely decent price point, the Ultimate 2 is a fantastic controller, especially if you're looking for a single go-to controller with compatibility for both PC and Switch. I'm hoping it lasts me a loooong time.
