I love using this controller on both my PC and switch, and it's so nice to be able to swap the face buttons and switch the trigger modes on the fly. The fact that it comes with a dock is also a huge bonus. The d-pad is genuinely the best d-pad I've ever played on, it's so clicky and satisfying.
My single only issue with it, is that the face buttons are loud, like noticeably loud. I get used to them after a while playing though. Overall, this is an amazing controller.
I have two Pro 3's and two Pro 2+'s in the living room on my PC using Bazzite for couch gaming and couch co-op, and a Nintendo Switch set up.
Pros:
- Swapping from the PC to the Switch is a breeze with the dial on the back
- The new DPad feels nice
- Steam now recognizes the new buttons when in Bluetooth mode!
- Sticks can swapped without opening the controller if worn out (I use thumb grips anyway)
- Swappable buttons, great if I have non-gamers play on the PC or Switch, I can set the buttons to something they can grasp for that situation.
Unknowns:
- I haven't tried the green button yet to see if it breaks (as of 11/8/25
- I haven't opened mine yet to tinker, but you need special screwdriver bits, which is my sad as a bias for flathead and philips.
Cons:
- No swappable Battery, I would have been happier with a swappable battery and manually plug in a cable instead of the dock
- face buttons might be distracting to someone next to you as they sound louder than usual
Everything out of the box was great for this! The color is amazing, the buttons feel phenomenal, ergonomics are spot on since the Pro Plus controller. The only issue I see is the lack of a replaceable battery compartment but other than that, it’s great! No connection issues at all.
I’ve been using 8Bitdo controllers for a few years now because they’re the right mix of value, features, and quality. I had to get this one because orange is my favorite color and I wanted a D-pad centric controller for retro games. Ergonomics and controls feel great, and I really like the extra shoulder buttons. Swappable face buttons are great, though the printing on ABXY is a little blurry. I probably won’t ever use the ball top sticks, but they’re an interesting inclusion.
Absolutely love the Pro 3. The fact that the buttons can swap as well as the triggers have options for an analog pull or digital click are game changers. The software update that allows a shake to wake the Switch 2 is also fantastic.
The hand feel is perfect.
The button presses are slightly noisier on this than the Pro 2, but that does not bother me.
