8BitDo Mod Kit for Original N64 Controller

Great kit. Works well on switch but lacking compatibility with the 8bitdo receiver is annoying

The modkit for the original N64 controller from 8BitDo is super easy to install. You just open the controller, take out the original board, drop in the 8BitDo one, plug in the new analog stick, and screw it back together.
A clearly illustrated manual is included, and the whole process is quick and beginner-friendly.

A silicone plug seals the old cable hole neatly, and the wireless module fits into the expansion slot where the Rumble Pak or Memory Card used to go. The result: a fully wireless controller that works flawlessly with the Nintendo Switch and PC.

It feels great in use – especially with N64 games on the Switch. The new analog stick is much more precise and comfortable than the original one.

For Switch and PC, it’s absolutely perfect.
It's only almost perfect overall because there’s no wireless receiver for the original N64 console – which would’ve made it the ultimate retro-modern hybrid.

Still, a fantastic mod for anyone wanting to bring their N64 controller into the modern era.

The 8BitDo Mod Kit is a clever, nostalgic project for those comfortable with light DIY work and willing to accept trade-offs. It’s ideal if you have an old N64 controller with a worn joystick and want a wireless solution for Switch or PC gaming. The Hall Effect stick is a standout feature for longevity, but don’t expect it to feel exactly like the original N64 stick—think of it as a modernized hybrid. The weaker rumble and potential installation hiccups might frustrate some, and the reported discontinuation raises concerns about long-term support.

After a quick firmware update, that was super easy, it works great. Super happy with the purchase.
